Landscape: Mountain, Escalante Necklace
One-of-a-Kind
Mexican jelly opal, yellow-orange sapphire, Deschutes jasper, 18k yellow gold. Measures 33mm x 4" Detachable Pendant on a 30" necklace.
Why Is This Unique?
Jasper is a compact sedimentary material – an opaque variety of chalcedony that is chosen for its beautiful color, pattern or appearance when cutting is done. While picture jaspers can be found all over the world, specific colors or patterns are unique to the geographic region from which they originate. A particularly fine example is Deschutes Jasper, which hails from Oregon. This material comes from the personal collection of the late Hoot Elkins, who was the original miner of the material in the 1960's. He collected and hoarded many stones, consequently amassing copious fantastic specimens.
