The Inspiration behind the Dagny Rings

The Inspiration behind the Dagny Rings

The Inspiration: The origins of the Dagny collection began when I recreated a ring for a client using their original engagement ring that had two large, round diamonds set side-by-side. She hated that it reminded her of eyeballs or headlights, and requested something fresh. I came up with a "moi et toi" concept and mixed in her four additional emerald and diamond stacking bands, too. This ancient photo shows the finished jewel.

However, I couldn't stop there! I liked the ring so much, that I wondered what the style would look like if I set it with cabochons instead of the faceted stones. Et voila – the ring that kicked off a whole collection. I went on to make this ring in lots of yummy color combinations. The best part? It just so happened that two rings intertwined together perfectly for the ultimate stacking cocktail statement.

Choosing the Color Palette: I have dozens of stones that I spread around on my design table. I get inspired by playing with various combinations – mixing and contrasting. I'm always looking for the right tones and hues that will compliment another stone and make something come alive, like this group was always supposed to be together. More often than not, I go with my gut, and sometimes just take a gamble that you'll jive with my color-sense, too.

Favorite Combination:  I could never choose! It depends on my mood. That's how I pick my clothes and jewelry for the day, and it's always changing! I certainly go through phases though.  Maybe one week I'm trending toward blue, the next week could be pinks or maybe Fall tones. So good thing I have a lot to select from!
